April 4 (Bloomberg) -- David Beckham scored his first goal in Major League Soccer and set up another as the Los Angeles Galaxy beat the San Jose Earthquakes 2-0 last night.
Beckham took Landon Donovan's pass at the edge of the penalty area and shot under goalkeeper Joe Cannon in the eighth minute at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. It was his first goal in seven MLS games.
The former England captain, who last week played his 100th game for his country, set up the second goal in the 37th minute, lobbing a pass over the defense that Donovan ran onto before shooting past Cannon.
Beckham was slowed by ankle and knee injuries last season after signing a five-year contract that will pay him an MLS- record base salary of $5.5 million and might be worth as much as $250 million with endorsements and profit-sharing.
